STOMACH / BOWEL SYMPTOMS: Tummy pain, vomiting/diarrhea – but you can keep fluids down and are peeing

AFTER SURGERY / HOSPITAL: Wound/stitches management, dressings, new symptoms – but you feel generally stable

MEDICATION CONCERNS: Side effects that worry you – but you’re otherwise feeling okay

KIDS: Fever/rash/ear pain/mild vomiting or diarrhea – but they’re still drinking and peeing

Our Team

Our physician team works collaboratively with their group of assigned patients, ensuring efficient and effective co-ordination of ongoing healthcare needs for every patient.

Kootenay Medical Centre is home to 8 Family Physicians, RN, physiotherapist, Social Worker, three medical office assistants and one administrative manager.

Our physician group are well trained medical generalists, who are constantly strengthening their medical knowledge and skills.

Please use your BC Health Card number, your legal name (as it appears on your health card) and your Date of Birth to enter our online booking Portal. Once logged in, all patients of our clinic will see the available appointments for their Family Doctor. If no schedule appears, please check your entries for your PHN, name and DOB as they must match our system exactly.

BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT

WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT
  • Only medical masks are an acceptable face covering in the clinic. A medical mask will be provided to you if you do not have one of your own as cloth or home made masks are not acceptable. 
CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVACY
  • All of our staff have signed confidentiality agreements and we are dedicated to ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality. We cannot guarantee the privacy of anything sent to us by email so we recommend you contact the office by phone for all inquiries.
MISSED APPOINTMENTS/CANCELLATIONS
  • Cancellations require a minimum of 24 hours notice. There will be a missed appointment fee of $50 for phone or in-person visits if we do not have 24 hours notice.
PRESCRIPTION REFILLS
  • We encourage patients to book appointments for prescription refills at least 3-4 weeks prior to need.
CHAPERONES AND SUPPORT
  • You are welcome to bring a support person to your appointment. If you would like a chaperone to be present at an appointment, please ask the staff and we will be happy to assist you.
MEDICAL EDUCATION
  • We are a medical teaching site which means there will occasionally be residents and students at our clinic. While we encourage you to allow these professionals to assist you in care, please talk with your primary care provider or our staff if you have any questions or concerns.

CASTLEGAR URGENT & PRIMARY CARE CENTRE >

The Castlegar UPCC takes appointments for non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries such as:

  • Minor pain including sore throats, wound checks and dressings, and suture removal
  • Assessment and short-term treatment for joint pain and injuries that limit movements
  • Minor fevers, infections and upset stomach
  • Sexual health information and testing
  • Short-term mental health including anxiety and mild to moderate depression

The centre is located in the Castlegar & District Community Health Centre. Appointments MUST be booked in advance and patients have to present in Castlegar.

Accessible to: Anyone in the Kootenay Boundary region (both attached and unattached patients)

Booking an appointment: Call 250-304-1289 for all services. Based on your care needs, care could be with a nurse practitioner, registered nurse, social worker, or physiotherapist.

KB ACCESS CLINIC >

The KB Access Clinic is a medical clinic that offers primary care, as needed & by appointment. Virtual visits are available to patients across the region, with in-person appointments now open in Nelson — and plans to expand to Castlegar & Trail. Patients MUST book an appointment to see a health care provider; they are NOT a walk-in clinic. Your appointment will be with the provider on shift that day and they will focus on your top health concern.

Accessible to:

  • Patients who DO NOT have a family doctor or nurse practitioner, AND
  • Patients who LIVE in the Kootenay Boundary region of BC (includes Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Grand Forks, Rossland, Salmo, Slocan, Nakusp, New Denver, Christina Lake, East Shore, Fruitvale, Greenwood, Kaslo, Midway, Rock Creek & rural areas)

COVID-19 Protocols
  • While virtual appointments are still encouraged due to the recent increase in COVID cases, patients can now request an in person appointment if need-be, providing they do not have COVID symptoms.
  • If you are feeling unwell with any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste and/or smell, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, sore throat or runny nose please call us so we can make arrangements to see you while keeping everyone safe.
